December 2017 Hawberry Quilter Newsletter

We hope you enjoy our December newsletter!  It is supposed to snow today, but hopefully many of us will still be able to make it to the Missionary Church Hall for the wonderful dinner that the volunteers at the church are making for us.  Do you like my Christmas tree?  You can make word shapes by going to tagzedo creator.  It's great, but you have to try out different browsers to find one that works - I used Internet Explorer.

Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year in 2018!

November 2017 Island Quilters Guild Show and Tell

As it's getting closer to Christmas, we saw more quilted gift items at our show and tell.  Wonderful gifts that we hope the recipients all appreciate!  As well, three members showed competed quilted hangings made with vintage linens that we started at the Kelly Cline workshop in October.
During the meeting, we had demonstrations from 5 members about their favourite tools - I think there will be some additions to gift 'wish list' in the next few weeks!  Thanks to the members who did demos:  Kathy, Nancy, Myra, Myrna and Colleen!
Here are most of the Show and Tell items from our meeting:

October 2017 Guild Show and Tell

We enjoyed some of our members' Show and Tell at this meeting, but also were treated to a trunk show by Kelly Cline, a Handi Quilter Ambassador and internationally acclaimed teacher.  Kelly is an amazing long arm quilter, but her other passion with fibre is using vintage linens in quilted items.  Whether she has quilted a top purchased from ebay or old pillow tops from garage sales or totes embellished with vintage table runners and parts of doilies, Kelly uses her creative eye to design and quilt amazing fibre art!
We had a lot more 'show and tell', but we forgot to stop and let our historian take a good photo!!
Melissa did an excellent job quilting this Connie Wilson quilt for Cathy

The rest of the images show some of the items that Kelly showed us from her collection of vintage quilts.  If you can zoom in on some of the smaller ones, you'll be able to view the wonderful quilting!
